About The Assessment

GVD takes a holistic and potential-focused approach to scholarship assessment.

Academic results and previous achievements form part of the assessment, but they are not the sole
measures of merit. GVD considers each applicant’s demonstrated capability, thinking, creativity,
learning attitude, resilience, development journey, character and potential for future growth and
contribution.

Assessment is considered in the context of each applicant’s age, experience and stage of
development.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment Direction Weighting
Future Potential & Development Capacity 20%
Thinking, Creativity, Innovation & Problem Solving 20%
Learning Attitude, Curiousity & Self-Driven Development 15%
Demonstrated Talent, Achievement & Quality of Evidence 15%
HCA: Resilience, Adaptability & Self-Regulation 15%
Character, Responsibility & Engagement w/Others 5%
Future Direction & Potential for Industry/Community Impact 10%

Each application is assessed across seven dimensions. Together, these dimensions form the overall assessment framework.

What We Look For

Your Personal Statement helps GVD understand the person behind your results and achievements.

We look for evidence of:

• your interests, strengths and individual qualities;
• what motivates you to learn and develop;
• how you respond to challenges, setbacks or difficult problems;• your capacity for reflection and learning from experience;
• the capabilities you wish to develop further;
• why this scholarship is meaningful to your development; and
• your future direction and the contribution you hope to make.

We are interested in the authenticity, depth and quality of your thinking, rather than sophisticated
writing or English language style.

Personal Statement

The Personal Capability Presentation gives applicants an opportunity to show and explain their capability in their own way.

GVD considers:

• how clearly you explain your work or experience;
• your thinking and decision-making process;
• how you approached challenges or problems;
• what you learned;
• your understanding of your own strengths and areas for development; and
• where you believe this capability could develop next.

Professional filming, editing or presentation production is not being assessed. The focus is on your
thinking, capability, authenticity and development potential.

Supporting evidence helps us understand what you can do, how you have developed and the quality of your demonstrated capability. Depending on your field, evidence may include projects, research, creative or design work, technical work, competitions, awards, sport or performance evidence, leadership or community initiatives, or other relevant work.

We particularly consider:

• the quality and relevance of the evidence;
• the applicant’s own contribution;
• development demonstrated over time;
• how the applicant approached the work;
• what was learned through the experience; and
• what the evidence indicates about future potential.

All applications are assessed holistically. Meeting individual assessment criteria does not guarantee
a scholarship. Scholarship decisions are subject to eligibility, assessment, verification, final approval,
applicable scholarship conditions and availability of scholarship funding.
GVD recognises that talent and potential may be demonstrated differently across different ages,
educational stages and fields. Evidence will therefore be considered in an age-appropriate and
context-appropriate manner.
